Basketball Recap: Somerset Academy Losee Takes a Loss

If Somerset Academy Losee was riding high fresh off their 72-44 takedown of Cheyenne last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Somerset Academy Losee Lions fell 61-49 to the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Mountain Lions are ranked third).

When it comes to explaining why Somerset Academy Losee lost, don't look at Roderick Johnson. Despite the final result, he posted 29 points. Johnson's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Zion Gayle was another key player, putting up seven points.

Sierra Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jevon Yapi, who went 8 of 19 on his way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Yapi continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Knoll, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards.

Somerset Academy Losee now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Sierra Vista, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.

Somerset Academy Losee has already played their next game, an 83-40 victory against Doral Academy Red Rock on the 24th. As for Sierra Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 90-42 win against Somerset Sky Pointe on the 23rd.
