While Bayside didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Brevard HEAT with a sharp 15-1 victory on Tuesday. The Bears' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Alex Brzuchalski made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Austin Still looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Bayside got a massive performance out of Sam Welte, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Steven Soto, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Bayside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bayside pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs over those games. As for Sebastian River, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Sebastian River took their victory against Bayside in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 9-3. Does Sebastian River have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bayside turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
