The Philip Barbour Colts will challenge the Braxton County Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Philip Barbour will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
On Monday, Philip Barbour had just enough and edged out Doddridge County 6-5.
Landyn Carpenter was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Carpenter was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kent Rowan was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since April 2nd. Another player making a difference was Kale Wolfe, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, while Braxton County put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Tyler. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Knights 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since May 8, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Owen Lowther, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Braxton County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-14 otherwise.
Philip Barbour pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Braxton County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-14.
Braxton County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Philip Barbour has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. It's a different story for Braxton County, though, as they've only averaged .344. Will they be able to contain Philip Barbour's hitters?
Philip Barbour beat Braxton County 8-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
