Lynchburg-Clay and Eastern are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Warriors at 5:45 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lynchburg-Clay was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Manchester on Monday. The Mustangs blew past the Greyhounds 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Mustangs have posted against the Greyhounds since May 1, 2018.
Noel Barnhill was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Kendra Doss was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Audrey Barry was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Lynchburg-Clay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Eastern waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
The team relied heavily on Chloe Hauck, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Charlize Hauke, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Eastern's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Lynchburg-Clay, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lynchburg-Clay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lynchburg-Clay couldn't quite finish off Eastern in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 5-3. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
