The Desert Mountain Wolves will venture away from home to face off against the Canyon View Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Desert Mountain 12.8, Canyon View 12) so any points scored will be well earned.
Desert Mountain is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Arizona College Prep just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 28-14 bruising from the Knights. The Wolves gained 116 more yards on the day, but it was the Knights that made the best use of them.
Despite the defeat, Desert Mountain got top-tier performance from Caroline Workman, who threw for 270 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 60 yards and one score on only seven carries. Workman also deserves a shoutout for her performance on D, making four total tackles and defending two passes.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Canyon View challenged Willow Canyon on Thursday. The Jaguars simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wildcats 52-0. Considering the Jaguars have won eight games by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Desert Mountain better keep an eye on Nataley Laing. She was instrumental in Canyon View's win, throwing for 353 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. The dominant performance also gave Laing a new career-high in passer rating (144.9). 113 of Laing's passing yards were hauled in by Jada White, who also brought in three receiving touchdowns.
Canyon View didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Bella Rincon and Martha Kaborloomene. Kaborloomene got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.4 points on average over those games. As for Desert Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5-1.
Desert Mountain was taken down by Canyon View 53-6 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Wolves, Katelyn Jewell (who threw for 281 yards and seven TDs while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
