Baseball Recap: Discovery Canyon Wins Going Away Against Denver South

The Discovery Canyon Thunder got the win against the Denver South Ravens on Saturday by a conclusive 11-2. Considering the Thunder have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Discovery Canyon got a great performance from Pierce Hafferkamp as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luke Jensen, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Cody, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Discovery Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver South only posted a batting average of .200.

Discovery Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Denver South, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.

Looking ahead, Discovery Canyon will challenge Cheyenne Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Denver South, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Monarch at 4:00 p.m.
