If the North Moore Mustangs were feeling good off their 65-27 takedown of the Graham Red Devils last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. North Moore received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 71-57 to Chatham Central. While losing is never fun, North Moore can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 525th, while Chatham Central is ranked 214th).
When it comes to explaining why North Moore lost, one person who can't be blamed is Colby Pennington. Despite the final result, he shot 5-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds. Pennington hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Michael Copeland, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.
It was another big night for Reid Albright, who scored 30 points along with six rebounds and three steals for Chatham Central. Albright has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Johnson, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
North Moore has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Chatham Central, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
North Moore will head out on the road to take on Northwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Northwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five last Saturday. As for Chatham Central, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Southeast Alamance at 8:00 p.m.
