John Champe hasn't had much luck against Woodgrove recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Knights will challenge the Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. John Champe is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
John Champe lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Loudoun County, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's match. The Knights were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Captains on Thursday. Considering the Knights have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Trevor Casad spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kellan Reavill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: John Champe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 15.
Woodgrove let Heritage stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Thursday but luckily Woodgrove prevailed anyway. The Wolverines came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pride, sneaking past 7-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.
Bryan Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other pitching news, Woodgrove got a great performance from Brodie Carley as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
Back at the plate, Coltan Dezarn was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Patrick Lyons was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
John Champe pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Woodgrove, their record is now 9-1.
John Champe couldn't quite get it done against Woodgrove when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
