The Carlsbad Lancers will face off against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Carlsbad has 11 straight wins, La Costa Canyon has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Last Tuesday, Carlsbad got the win against Poway by a conclusive 3-0.
Carlsbad was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-19, 25-16.
Carlsbad can attribute much of their success to Ben Sauerwine, who had 21 assists and three digs.
Carlsbad was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon lost 3-0 to Del Norte on Thursday.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-13, 25-21.
Carlsbad pushed their record up to 26-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for La Costa Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's game: Carlsbad has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.2 aces per game. It's a different story for La Costa Canyon, though, as they've been averaging only 3 aces. Given Carlsbad's sizable advantage in that area, the Mavericks will need to find a way to close that gap.
