Denver Academy hasn't had much luck against Dawson School recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Denver Academy will take on Dawson School at 4:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Denver Academy came out on top against Weldon Valley on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Mustangs blew past the Warriors 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.

John Henry Pogue made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Denver Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Pogue was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Denver Academy got a massive performance out of Josh Ortman, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Ortman has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jack Wood, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Denver Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weldon Valley only posted an OBP of .348.
Meanwhile, Dawson School had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Bobcats as they made off with a 19-6 victory.
Milo Richtel was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Dawson Kusel was another key player, going 5-for-6 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
The win got Dawson School back to even at 6-6. As for Denver Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Denver Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dawson School struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Denver Academy suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Dawson School in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Denver Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
