East River is 1-9 against Winter Park since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The East River Falcons will look to defend their home court against the Winter Park Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, East River humbled Lake Nona with a 49-21 victory. Given East River's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Lake Nona is ranked 514th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Winter Park waltzed into Friday's match with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 47-40 victory over Oviedo.
Winter Park's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Childs, who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Childs has scored at least 25% of Winter Park's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maliyah Lockhart, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
East River now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Winter Park, they have yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 6-1 record.
East River came up short against Winter Park in their previous matchup last Friday, falling 34-29. Can East River avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
