Fairfield County recap November 13, 2013
Courtlyn Victrum of Trinity Catholic ran for the longest rushing play in Fairfield County this season against Bassick last week. Victrum scampered for 29 yards on the play and finished with 58 on the day as his team lost to the Lions.
New Canaan extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Wilton, 35-7. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Rams.
St. Joseph's dynamic duo of Jordan Vazzano and Lars Pedersen proved tough for Warde to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Vazzano threw for 277 yards and 5 touchdowns and Pedersen had 125 yards receiving. Shane Miller helped St. Joseph's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 119 yards.
Mykel Morris provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Bridgeport Central fell to Staples. He completed 9 passes for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 115 yards. Morris' key target this week was Quintin Jones, who caught 4 passes for 96 yards.
He was 13-24 with 1 interception.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Griffin Ross. The Darien star has 63 catches for 833 yards.
Bassick's Vochan Fowler needs only 48 yards against the Mustangs next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 98 carries Fowler has accumulated 952 yard this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when McMahon takes on the Cadets. The Senators are currently in fourth, while St. Joseph is in second.
Ridgefield was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping McMahon. The Tigers came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
