The Yucaipa Thunderbirds lost to the Citrus Valley Blackhawks back in January of 2023, but the Yucaipa Thunderbirds didn't allow the Citrus Valley Blackhawks the same satisfaction on Wednesday. Yucaipa walked away with a 62-49 win over Citrus Valley.
Yucaipa got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jonathan Campbell out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. Campbell hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Doty, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Citrus Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marcos Ortiz, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Ortiz continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Davis, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Yucaipa's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 10-13. As for Citrus Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yucaipa will take on Beaumont at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Beaumont presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Yucaipa in California (Beaumont is ranked 195th, while Yucaipa is ranked 630th). As for Citrus Valley, they will be playing at home against Redlands at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Redlands is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
