The Sweetwater Red Devils will square off against the Valley Center Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sweetwater is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.
Last Thursday, Sweetwater made easy work of San Ysidro and carried off a 19-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won 15 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Tatyana Mosqueda made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Sweetwater got a massive performance out of Gabriella Sena, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI Sena has posted since back in March. Destiny Martinez was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Sweetwater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Ysidro only posted an OBP of .385.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Valley Center rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Lancers by a score of 11-8.
Like Sweetwater, Valley Center also got a great game from a two-way player: Winter Molina. On the mound, she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Molina was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maya Cueva, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Su'La Devers, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Sweetwater's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Valley Center, their win bumped their record up to 10-19.
