The Columbus Cardinals came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Edna 57-43. For Columbus, this counts as revenge for the 49-40 defeat Edna walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Columbus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Anaya Gardner, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Gardner scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Karlee Mathis, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Columbus is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Edna, their loss dropped their record down to 17-5.
Columbus won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Moulton at 2:15 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Moulton's defense has only allowed 29.9 points per game this season, so Columbus' offense will have their work cut out for Columbus. Edna's road trip will continue as they head out to face Industrial at 6:15 p.m. on January 5th. Industrial will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1007th, while Edna is ranked 337th).
