The Orofino Maniacs will challenge the Grangeville Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Orofino is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 17.7 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Orofino came up short against Colton and fell 10-6. The game marked the Maniacs' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Rilee Diffin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Paige Deyo was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grangeville). Everything went their way against Kellogg last Thursday as they made off with a 28-6 win. The Bulldogs have beaten the Wildcats the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.
Makenna York was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addisyn Vanderwall, who went 3-for-6 with seven RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Grangeville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Orofino fell to 6-1. As for Grangeville, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Grangeville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Orofino has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Grangeville, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Orofino's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Orofino couldn't quite finish off Grangeville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Maniacs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
