Goliad and Poth are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Goliad 2.7, Poth 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Goliad lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Cuero, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Tigers put the hurt on the Gobblers with a sharp 9-2 victory on Friday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Conner Maroney looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cy Henke, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Goliad is undefeated when Henke posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kayden Caka, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Goliad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Poth unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 7-2 to Hondo. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Pirates couldn't push the score so high this time.
Poth saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braden Arruda, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one double.
Goliad's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Poth, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Goliad has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. However, it's not like Poth struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Goliad got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Poth by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
