Softball Recap: Irvine Has No Trouble Against University

Irvine came into Monday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the University Trojans with a sharp 13-2 win on Monday. The contest marked the Vaqueros' most dominant victory of the season.

Midori De Los Santos was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Abby Sasaki and Katie Liu did most of the damage at the plate: Sasaki scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Liu scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, Liu posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Harper Vandermolen was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Irvine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as University only posted an OBP of .269.

Irvine's win bumped their record up to 4-13. As for University, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Irvine will face off against Rosary Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Royals will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Vaqueros surely won't give up without a fight. As for University, they will challenge Portola at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
