The Tanque Verde Hawks gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Glendale Prep Academy 30-3 on the road. The result was nothing new for Tanque Verde, who have now won five games by 27 points or more so far this season.
Gavin Gilbert continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 206 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Gilbert is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Mckenna, who rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Glendale Prep Academy to a paltry 170 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Tanque Verde's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Eli Clausen and his three sacks.
When it comes to explaining why Glendale Prep Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nickolas Cummings. Despite the final result, he rushed for 108 yards on only 13 carries.
The win makes it two in a row for Tanque Verde and bumps their season record up to 7-2. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 23 points. As for Glendale Prep Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Tanque Verde will head out on the road to face off against Benson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Glendale Prep Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Cortez at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Cortez is ranked 169th, while Glendale Prep Academy is ranked 164th).
