The Bayfield Wolverines will take on the Alamosa Mean Moose at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Bayfield took a 15-run defeat the last time they faced off against Montrose, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Red Hawks 13-11. Considering the Wolverines' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Micah Cornelia was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tavian Box, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Bayfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Alamosa had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Bulldogs. 11 seems to be a good number for the Mean Moose as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Jonah Pittman was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Pittman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nelson Arambula, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Jaidyn Burciaga was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.
Alamosa's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Bayfield, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.
Everything went Bayfield's way against Alamosa in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Bayfield made off with a 16-10 win. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mean Moose turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
