Metamora took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Sterling Golden Warriors 43-14. The Redbirds haven't had any issues with the Golden Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Metamora's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Stephen Petri led the charge by throwing for 141 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 38 yards and one score. Another back making a difference was Jaiduan Cranford, who rushed for 132 yards and one TD while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.

Metamora and Sterling should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Redbirds will take on LaSalle-Peru at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (102 vs. 254). Meanwhile, Sterling (ranked 146th) will meet Urban Prep-Bronzeville/Urban Prep-Englewood (ranked 466th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
