Stuart W. Cramer and North Gaston are an even 5-5 against one another since June of 2021, but likely not for long. The Storm will challenge the Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Stuart W. Cramer comes in on ten and North Gaston on four.
Stuart W. Cramer proved they can win big on Monday (they won by eight) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out East Gaston 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Storm have posted since March 13th.
Mason Price spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Stuart W. Cramer saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Dye, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, North Gaston sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Highland Tech on Tuesday.
North Gaston also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Jackson Livingston gave up only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Livingston.
North Gaston's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Stuart W. Cramer, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Stuart W. Cramer has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Gaston struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Stuart W. Cramer came out on top in a nail-biter against North Gaston when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Storm since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
