Softball Recap: UMS-Wright Prep Wins Going Away Against St. Michael Catholic

UMS-Wright Prep made up a huge gap compared to their last game against St. Michael Catholic, but they still couldn't quite topple them. UMS-Wright Prep was the clear victor by a 20-1 margin over St. Michael Catholic on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Parker Abston made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Marina Hess and Emma Trawick did most of the damage at the plate: Hess scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Trawick got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Trawick's first of the season. Marilyn Grace Cook was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

UMS-Wright Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Michael Catholic only posted an OBP of .182.

UMS-Wright Prep has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. St. Michael Catholic dropped their record down to 7-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, UMS-Wright Prep will face off against Davidson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Davidson's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so UMS-Wright Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Michael Catholic, they will take on Orange Beach at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
