The Grayslake Central Rams will challenge the Carmel Corsairs at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Grayslake Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.4 runs per game this season.
Grayslake Central came up short against Libertyville on Saturday, falling 12-6. The loss continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.
Kate Davies was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Autumn Aliff was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Carmel had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Bulldogs. That's two games straight that the Corsairs have won by exactly ten runs.
Grace Brown was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.1 RBI per game. Another player making a difference was Grace King, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Carmel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Carmel's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Grayslake Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Grayslake Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .436. However, it's not like Carmel struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grayslake Central came up short against Carmel in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, falling 9-5. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
