The Wiley Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Springfield Longhorns at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Wiley is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, Wiley didn't have quite enough to beat Eads and fell 4-3.
Grant Mauch was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Springfield came out on top against Granada on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Longhorns blew past the Bobcats 14-6. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Kaydon Evans made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Hudson Gourley and Gunner Mackey did most of the damage at the plate: Gourley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Mackey went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Springfield is 2-1 when Gourley posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Grady Mundell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Springfield's record is now 3-6. As for Wiley, they now have a losing record of 7-8-1.
Wiley beat Springfield 10-7 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
