There's no place like home for the Walthill Blujays, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-38 win over Winside on Tuesday. Given Walthill's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Winside is ranked 236th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walthill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ethan Parker led the charge by scoring 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keesan Kaaihue, who scored 12 points.
Despite the defeat, Winside saw an underclassman step up: Gavin Schutt scored 12 points.
Walthill's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.2 points per game. As for Winside, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
Walthill will head out on the road to square off against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Laurel-Concord-Coleridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Thursday. Winside will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Stanton on February 6th.
