Baseball Recap: Strayhorn's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Strayhorn had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Jumpertown Cardinals. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Sanders Sowell made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Strayhorn is undefeated when Sowell posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-14 otherwise.

In other batting news, Strayhorn let Morgan Moore and Jayden Bowen run wild. Moore got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Bowen went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Bowen is becoming a predictor of Strayhorn's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-14 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Maury Balderrama, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Strayhorn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jumpertown only posted an OBP of .382.

Strayhorn's victory bumped their record up to 9-14. As for Jumpertown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Strayhorn will have a chance to go back-to-back against Jumpertown: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
