Basketball Recap: McLaughlin Gets the Win

McLaughlin's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Frostproof Bulldogs 33-31. The Phoenix's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

When it comes to explaining why Frostproof lost, don't look at Nia Sloan. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points and seven blocks. That was a full 51.6% of the Bulldogs' points, marking the seventh time in a row Sloan has put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Danica Loaiza, who had nine points.

McLaughlin's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Frostproof, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McLaughlin will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bartow at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2026. As for Frostproof, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Santa Fe Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
