The Cedaredge Bruins were the 42-40 winner over the Plateau Valley Cowboys when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Cedaredge was the victim of a tough 63-39 loss at the hands of Plateau Valley on Friday. While losing is never fun, Cedaredge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Plateau Valley is ranked 34th).
Loss or not, Cedaredge got some senior leadership from Luke Maxey who scored 17 points along with two steals and Logan Tullis who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jacob Bowler, who scored five points along with four blocks.
Plateau Valley was led to victory by Colter Ralston and Jack Vig. Ralston scored 18 points along with four steals, while Vig dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Ralston scored 15 or more points. Jackson Bevan was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Cedaredge has fallen quite a ways from their 18-4 record last season and are now at 1-6. As for Plateau Valley, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cedaredge will take on Nucla at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Plateau Valley won't have much time to rest: their next game is against North Park at 2:30 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully North Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
