The Fonda-Fultonville Valley Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Schoharie Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fonda-Fultonville will be strutting in after a win while Schoharie will be coming in after a defeat.
Fonda-Fultonville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Fort Plain with a sharp 9-1 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Valley Hawks in their matchups with the Hilltoppers: they've now won four in a row.
Grace Furnare made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Watterson went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Huckans went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Watterson a new career-high. Ellana Dineen also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Fonda-Fultonville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Plain only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Schoharie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Storm have suffered since April 17, 2024.
Kayla Hayes put in work no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Hayes was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Arabella Donzelli made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Carly Waters, who went 3-for-5 with two runs.
The victory got Fonda-Fultonville back to even at 2-2. As for Schoharie, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fonda-Fultonville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Schoharie struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fonda-Fultonville was able to grind out a solid win over Schoharie when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Valley Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Storm turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
