The Pueblo South Colts were the 65-39 winner over the Pueblo County Hornets when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Pueblo South took a 65-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pueblo County on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, Pueblo South still got an impressive performance from Maurice Austin, who scored 32 points along with three steals. That was a full 59.3% of Pueblo South's points, marking the 14th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Will Flowers, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Pueblo South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Pueblo County to victory were Dominic Mauro and Johnathan Gonzales. Mauro scored 20 points along with seven rebounds, while Gonzales dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Mauro's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Roseman, who scored seven points.
Pueblo South now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Pueblo County, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pueblo South will take on Pueblo West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pueblo West will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Pueblo County, they will head out on the road to take on Pueblo East at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pueblo East focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday.
