Two dominant  backs in  Josiah Thornwell and  Isaac Lugo are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts will challenge the Sahuaro Cougars at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday.  Last Friday, Mica Mountain humbled  Canyon del Oro with  a  50-6 victory. The Thunderbolts' offense checked out after the first half but had enough  points banked to take the game anyway.
  Jayden Thoreson had a dynamite game for Mica Mountain, throwing for 186 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes.  Jimmy Leon was in the mix  too, providing Mica Mountain with two touchdowns.
 Mica Mountain wouldn't let Canyon del Oro keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Mica Mountain can thank  Leon and  Jaysen Criswell for forcing both of them.
 Meanwhile,  a  win for Sahuaro just wasn't in the cards  last Friday as the  squad wasn't able to take the lead at any point. They were beaten by Walden Grove 72-27. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at  45-21.
 Sahuaro might have lost, but man,  Trevor Eagerton was a machine:  he threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of  Xavier Shelton, who picked up 109 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
 Mica Mountain's victory was  their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which  pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Sahuaro, they now  have a losing record at 3-4.
 Friday's   matchup might be decided in the on the ground. Mica Mountain has been excellent on the ground this season,  having  averaged 156.6  rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sahuaro struggles in that department as   they've been averaging 170.1. It's looking like  Friday's  game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
 Everything came up roses for Mica Mountain against Sahuaro in their previous matchup  back in October of 2023, as the  team secured  a  55-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mica Mountain since the  squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
