Waxahachie hasn't had much luck against Duncanville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Last Friday, Waxahachie narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Forney 37-34.
A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Jerry Meyer Iii and his top target Kohen Brown. Meyer Iii threw for 422 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt while Brown picked up 229 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Brown torched the secondary when he pulled down a catch that went for 93 yards. Wade Lemons helped Meyer Iii out on the ground, picking up 46 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 58 yards.
Meanwhile, Duncanville had already won eight in a row dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.5 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They snuck past the Panthers with a 28-24 victory.
Duncanville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keelon Russell, who threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown. Russell is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. 109 of those passing yards were hauled in by Ayson Theus, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.
Duncanville's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Nehemiah Borner was especially locked on to St. Frances Academy's QB and sacked him three times. Another thorn in St. Frances Academy's side was Tyren Polley Jr., who made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception.
Waxahachie now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Duncanville, their record now sits at 2-0.
Waxahachie took a serious blow against Duncanville when the teams last played back in October of 2023, falling 44-10. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Waxahachie was down 30-0.
