3A Region 3 recap October 1, 2013
O'Bannon scaled the state rankings by moving to 154 from 194 this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region 3. The Greenwaves were able to move up by defeating Leland 42-6.
O'Bannon extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Cubs, 42-6. The win marks fifth in a row for the corey holmes' team.
Markevion Quinn threw for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Quinn put up the best numbers in passing as Ruleville Central bested Palmer. Quinn's favorite target this week was Anthony Spivey, who caught 7 passes for 88 yards.
The Tigers' Quinn and Spivey have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Quinn has thrown for 890 yards this season, while Spivey, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 26 catches for 442 yards. Centarus Washington from the Greenwaves leads the league in rushing with 557 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Ruleville Central's Spivey goes up against O'Bannon's Jamenta Shaw.
One of 3A Region 3's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Darrius Edwards' team and the Greenwaves face off next week.
Next week's game between the Tigers and O'Bannon will feature an aerial matchup as Quinn tests his arm against Shaw's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when East Side takes on Leflore County. The Trojans are currently in second, while the Tigers are in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when Ruleville Central and the Greenwaves face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 112 this season, while O'Bannon has scored 192. Ruleville Central scored 30 points last week as it topped the Dragons.
The Greenwaves took down Leland 42-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Washington ran for 77 yards and caught 1 pass for 23 yards during the win.
