Cole Boyles made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Reece Murphy was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Shawn Pallay was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Pope John Paul II got the win against Upper Merion Area on Monday by a conclusive 10-3. Considering Pope John Paul II has won six games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Chase Frantz, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braylen Kupp, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Pope John Paul II was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Upper Merion Area only posted a batting average of .231.
The victory made it two in a row for Pope John Paul II and bumps their season record up to 10-2. As for Pottstown, their win bumped their record up to 3-11-1.
