Basketball Recap: Calvary Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Liam Hocutt and Tj Benson

If Calvary Christian was riding high fresh off their 73-52 takedown of New Creation Christian Academy last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Calvary Christian Knights lost 79-53 to the St. Anne-Pacelli Vikings on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Calvary Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tj Benson, who posted 22 points and five steals, and Liam Hocutt, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 19 points. The dominant performance gave Hocutt a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Hosten, who put up seven points and ten rebounds.

It was another big night for Jalien Bush, who went 11 of 15 on his way to 25 points along with five assists and five boards for St. Anne-Pacelli. Bush continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Michael Rowe was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

Calvary Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for St. Anne-Pacelli, the win keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Calvary Christian will venture away from home to challenge Westfield School at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Calvary Christian is facing Westfield School at the right time seeing as Westfield School is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for St. Anne-Pacelli, they will challenge Handley at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
