The Pine Creek Eagles had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.1 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They came out on top against Doherty by a score of 51-41. Given Pine Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Spartans are ranked 47th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pine Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alli Dreessen, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dreessen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Doherty had strong showings from Rachel Stewart, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds, and Tahlaya Biglow, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Pine Creek's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Doherty, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine Creek will challenge the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fountain-Fort Carson is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Doherty, they and the Lancers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Liberty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
