The East Coweta Indians lost against the Westlake Lions back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. East Coweta's rough 62-40 defeat to the Lions might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, East Coweta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while the Lions are ranked 65th).
East Coweta lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kieara Lugo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Lugo has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Kezoriyah Blackshear was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
Even though they lost, East Coweta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
East Coweta's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Westlake, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Coweta won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Cavaliers at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. As for Westlake, they will be playing at home against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Campbell is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
