The Holy Cross Cougars will square off against the Providence Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Providence will be up against a hot Holy Cross team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand W.E.B. DuBois Academy a 13-0 shutout on Wednesday.

Mason Lanham
Ace Foley and Mason Lanham made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Foley struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Lanham pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Holy Cross is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-12 otherwise. At the plate, Foley went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles, while Lanham got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Lanham a new career-high.
In other batting news, Holy Cross got a massive performance out of Noah Basham, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Basham a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Roy, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
Holy Cross was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Providence made easy work of Clarksville on Wednesday and carried off a 14-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Cole Huett, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Parker Pennington was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Providence is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Cross, they pushed their record up to 8-13 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Holy Cross suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Providence in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
