Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Austin's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Austin had won three straight road games and Jillian Shirk did her part to make it four on Friday. The Austin Maroons simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Dripping Springs Tigers 71-40 thanks in part to Shirk, who went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 20 points in addition to eight steals and six assists. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (two).

Another player making a difference was Angelina Gomez, who posted two points and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Austin is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Dripping Springs, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Austin and Dripping Springs could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Austin (ranked 320th) will meet Westlake (ranked 57th) at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Similarly, Dripping Springs (ranked 914th) will meet Bowie (ranked 86th) at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th.
