American Fork hasn't had much luck against Westlake recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
American Fork had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Provo last Wednesday. The Cavemen never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Cavemen sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Eleni Llsonbee made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Llsonbee was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Andi Gardner was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedy McKinney, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple.
American Fork hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 12 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Westlake made easy work of Juan Diego Catholic last Thursday and carried off a 15-0 victory.
Westlake got a massive performance out of Addison Conder, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Conder has posted since back in March of 2024. Emmri Chuchran also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Westlake has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for American Fork, their record is now 6-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. American Fork has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. However, it's not like Westlake struggles in that department as they've averaged .516. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
American Fork might still be hurting after the 18-9 loss they got from Westlake when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Cavemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
