Baseball Recap: Merino Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Merino entered their tilt with Simla on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Cubs 16-5. With that win, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.

Isaac Poe and Mickey Swiger did most of the damage at the plate: Poe went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Swiger went 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs Swiger has posted since back in April of 2025. JJ Powell also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Merino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Merino now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Simla, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Merino will host Haxtun at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will need to watch out since the Fightin' Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for Simla, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cripple Creek-Victor at 4:30 p.m. on April 7.
