Fort Thomas hasn't had much luck against Pima recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Apaches will be playing at home against the Roughriders at 4:00 p.m. Fort Thomas has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fort Thomas came up short against Ray on Wednesday, falling 19-2. The Apaches have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Fort Thomas saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Benally, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Benally also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pima). They put the hurt on Gilbert Classical Academy with a sharp 27-2 win on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Roughriders with their most commanding win of the season.
The team relied heavily on Bivianna Vega, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Tatum Brinkerhoff was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Pima kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
The victory made it two in a row for Pima and bumps their season record up to 4-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.0 runs over those games. As for Fort Thomas, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fort Thomas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .432. However, it's not like Pima struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fort Thomas might still be hurting after the 21-11 defeat they got from Pima in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Apaches have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
