It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Cumberland Gap ultimately got the result it was hoping for on Friday. They dodged a bullet, finishing off Pineville 25-24. That result was just more of the same for Cumberland Gap, who also won the last time these teams played.
Cumberland Gap's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 18 points in the first half. Meanwhile, Pineville couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 18-0 heading into the break. Cumberland Gap almost let the match get away from them in the second half, but they had just enough oomph to take it. The win bumped their record up to 3-2. The defeat dropped Pineville's record to 4-2.
Next week Cumberland Gap take on Wartburg Central at 7:30 PM. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous games. Pineville will be staying on the road, facing off against Thomas Walker. Given that they both suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this weekend.
