Softball Recap: Mark Keppel Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Mark Keppel won against Bell Gardens last Tuesday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Aztecs never let the Alhambra Moors get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Aztecs, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Robyn Guitron was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avigail Navarro, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Ruby Ramirez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Mark Keppel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alhambra only posted an OBP of .130.

Mark Keppel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Alhambra, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Mark Keppel and Alhambra could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Aztecs will square off against Crescenta Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (319 vs. 95). Meanwhile, Alhambra (ranked 896th) will meet Schurr (ranked 147th) at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
