On Friday, The Archbishop Stepinac Crusaders faced the St. Anthony's Friars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Archbishop Stepinac put the hurt on St. Anthony's with a sharp 56-35 victory. Winning may never get old, but Archbishop Stepinac sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Archbishop Stepinac's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Osbourne, who rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Lorenzo Robinson was another key contributor, rushing for 145 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Archbishop Stepinac's win was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.5 points per game. As for St. Anthony's, their loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Archbishop Stepinac will stay at home for another week and welcome Chaminade at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Chaminade is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for St. Anthony's, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cardinal Hayes at 7:00 p.m. Cardinal Hayes knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully St. Anthony's likes a good challenge.
