Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Mira Costa Mustangs walked away with it. They came out on top against the Rams by a score of 34-24 on Friday. The win was nothing new for Mira Costa as they're now sitting on six straight.
Mira Costa got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Reese Leonard out in front who picked up 156 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Leonard has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more receiving yards the last three times he's played. Charlie O'connor did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 151 receiving yards.
Murrieta Mesa's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gilos Lindsey, who picked up 138 receiving yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Silva, who threw for 292 yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Murrieta Mesa's defensive line still kept up the pressure with eight sacks. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Mira Costa's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.3 points per game. As for Murrieta Mesa, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-7.
Mira Costa will take on Simi Valley at 7:00 p.m. on November 25th. Simi Valley is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. Murrieta Mesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
