The Ashley Screaming Eagle put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against New Bern by a score of 40-31. Given Ashley's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while New Bern is ranked 150th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bella Cook was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Anna Benfield, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Ashley's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. As for New Bern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ashley will face off against New Bern at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. New Bern's road trip will continue as they head out to face West Craven at 5:00 p.m. on December 1st.
