Baseball Recap: Riverside Beats Camden Central for Their Third Straight Victory

Riverside waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Camden Central Lions with a sharp 15-5 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 back in March.

James England and Cody Brasher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, England tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Brasher pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, England scored a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Brasher scored a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Riverside got a massive performance out of Luke Hearington, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Connor Newberry, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Riverside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Riverside pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Camden Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Coming up, Riverside will welcome Houston at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Camden Central, they will head out on the road to square off against Stewart County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
