There's no place like home for the Clear Creek Golddiggers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They managed a 50-44 victory over Platte Canyon on Thursday. For Clear Creek, this counts as revenge for the 39-38 loss Platte Canyon walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Clear Creek had a senior duo take command as Tyler O'Brien scored 19 points along with 7 steals and Collin Hendrickson scored 22 points along with 7 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which O'Brien has scored at least 25% of Clear Creek's points. Zephyr Schuessler was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 3 steals.
Despite the loss, Platte Canyon still got an impressive performance from Alexander Thoms, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Thoms scored a full 36.4% of Platte Canyon's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack McMahen, who scored 9 points along with 8 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Platte Canyon were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clear Creek only pulled down four.
Clear Creek's win bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Platte Canyon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clear Creek will take on Arrupe Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Arrupe Jesuit focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday. As for Platte Canyon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Conifer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
